Hull FC v Salford

17 August 2019

Who would have thought Salford would have been within touching distance of a play-off spot so close to the end of the season? An overwhelming majority of fans and pundits predicted the Red Devils to be at the other end of the table, battling to avoid relegation, but head coach Ian Watson has worked wonders on a shoestring budget.

Salford have won their last four games to sit pretty in fifth, occupying the last play-off spot whilst Hull have won just three of their last seven, yet still find themselves in third place and level on points with Warrington in second.

Good news for FC fans, Hull have beaten Salford twice already in 2019, though the Red Devils will be aiming for third time lucky to fend off play-off challengers Castleford and Catalans.

Hull FC boss Lee Radford has made three changes to the side that beat Wakefield 26-16 last weekend with Mickey Paea and Sika Manu both coming back into contention after recovering from spells on the sideline. Jack Brown – who was named in last week’s 17 but not in the original 19 – is named too.

They replace trio Jack Logan, Kieran Buchanan, and Mark Minichiello, the latter missing out with a groin strain. Tevita Satae, who was named in last week’s squad but didn’t feature, is named again and could make his debut for the black-and-whites. Josh Wood and Ben Nakubuwai are back in Salford’s squad.

Hull are one of the most unpredictable sides in the competition with Salford going under the radar. Should be a very close game. SALFORD FOR THE WIN
