Leeds v St Helens: Thursday Night Preview
14 August 2019
A few months ago, this fixture would have been a foregone conclusion. Yet, four victories from six games has seen Leeds move into eighth position and practically safe from relegation. The confidence is flowing in the Rhinos’ ranks especially after a 48-8 victory over play-off hunting Catalans, but their opponents are a different animal.
St Helens have lost just three games all season and have won their last three fixtures against Leeds. It’s good news for Rhinos fans, however, as the West Yorkshire club have won seven games at home in 2019, compared to just three away.
Morgan Knowles and Joe Batchelor come back in for Saints in the place of Joseph Paulo and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook whilst Lachlan Coote, Alex Walmsley and James Roby remain on the sidelines. Stevie Ward comes in for Brad Singleton who will be out for two games through suspension.
With new signings Ava Seamanufagai, Rhyse Martin, Shaun Lunt and Robert Lui fitting in seamlessly, Leeds are on the up. Konrad Hurrell and Ash Handley have been superb down Leeds’ left edge all year and will be looking to cause the runaway leaders all sorts of trouble in defence. Saints are a champion side, but with the way Leeds are playing, nothing should be taken for granted. ST HELENS FOR THE WIN
