Half-back Ben Reynolds made a tryscoring return to Leigh to help the Centurions climb up to third place in the Betred Championship with a 50-18 win at relegated Rochdale Hornets.
Reynolds, who was Leigh’s leading scorer last season with 291 points before moving to Wakefield Trinity, rejoined the club this week and immediately struck up a successful partnership with Martyn Ridyard, who converted seven of his side’s nine tries.
Leigh now need only one point from their last three fixtures to ensure a place in the play-offs.
Hornets, already relegated to Betfred League 1 for 2020, trailed 50-6 but gained some consolation with late tries through Aidy Gleeson and Shaun Ainscough.
Featherstone Rovers ran in 12 tries to consolidate their top-five spot with a 66-16 home win over Swinton Lions.
Cameron King, Alex Sutcliffe and Brad Day all scored two tries apiece and Dane Chisholm kicked nine goals for Rovers, who remain four points clear of sixth-placed Sheffield Eagles.
The Eagles kept their slender play-off hopes alive by surviving a late fightback from Halifax to claim a 20-18 victory at The Shay, their first away from home since mid-June.

Shaun Robinson scored Halifax’s only first-half try but Scott Grix and Steve Tyrer added others after the break to set up a tense finish.
Bradford Bulls also kept alive their mathematical chances of climbing into the top five with a 46-22 at at relegation-threatened Barrow Raiders.
Elliott Minchella scored two tries and Joe Keyes contributed 18 points with a try and seven goals from eight attempts as the Bulls secured their first win in four matches.
Full-back Wayne Reittie scored two tries in Batley Bulldogs’ 16-10 win over Dewsbury Rams, their third Heavy Woollen derby triumph of the year which leaves their neighbours still needing two more points to ensure survival.
Toronto Wolfpack celebrated their presentation of the League Leaders’ Shield at the Lamport Stadium after gaining a 56-6 win over York City Knights, who began the weekend in second but drop to fourth at the end of it.
Gareth O’Brien scored a hat-trick of tries as the Wolfpack brought York’s seven-match unbeaten run to an abrupt end with their 18th successive victory, while Toulouse Olympique XIII made it four wins in a row to climb up to second with a 28-12 triumph at Widnes Vikings.
