St Helens v Castleford

30 August 2019

Challenge Cup losers St Helens will be wanting to avenge their defeat at Wembley against a Castleford side that has failed to beat the Lancashire side on their own soil since the early 1990s.

Saints have lost just three times in Super League all year and will be looking to get back on the horse on a charge to the Grand Final. Castleford, on the other hand, have had an inconsistent season, winning five of their last nine games.

Though Saints were in a grueling 80-minute battle in a sun-soaked Wembley, the Tigers were having a week off which has come back to haunt them in years gone by. In fact, Castleford’s 27-26 loss to Hull KR in 2019 – which could cost them a top five spot – came after a week’s rest.

Saints boss Justin Holbrook brings back Matty Costello in place of Dominique Peyroux whilst Lachlan Coote sits out with Jack Welsby replacing the Aussie.

Castleford head Coach Daryl Powell makes two changes with Cory Aston and Tuoyo Egodo stepping out of the side with Liam Watts and Calum Turner coming in, the former making his first appearance in over a month.

Taking into account Castleford’s abysmal form at St Helens and the fact that the latter will still be smarting from their cup loss after going in as favourites, there surely will only be one winner here. ST HELENS FOR THE WIN
