Super League

Warrington v St Helens: Thursday Night Preview

08 Aug 19 0 Comments

First versus second promises to be a cracker, although, in theory, there’s little for Saints to look forward to given they have already secured the League Leaders’ Shield.

Whilst Saints notched up a relatively straightforward 26-6 victory over Wakefield, Warrington were on the receiving end of a 30-10 hiding away at Catalans. It was a game where the passion spilled over into the stands, which Super League in general needs to address.

Though Warrington are through to the Challenge Cup Final, their league form has been dismal of late, winning just two of their last seven fixtures. And, their home form against Saints has left a lot to be desired with three losses in a row and the Wolves have just one win from their last six matches against the Lancashire club.

James Roby drops out of St Helens’ 19-man squad as Matty Costello comes in. Alex Walmsley (eye), Morgan Knowles (rib) and Lachlan Coote (knee) are still missing. Meanwhile, Warrington’s 18-man squad is a heavily changed one with Riley Dean, Luis Johnson, Pat Moran, Lama Tasi, Josh Thewlis, Danny Walker and Ben Westwood all being drafted in by head coach Steve Price following their dismal result in Perpignan.

With apparently nothing left to play for, Saints may take the foot off the gas. Yet, under Justin Holbrook, they have become a champion side and will want to keep up their momentum as they head into the play-offs. This promises to be a very entertaining and physical affair. WARRINGTON FOR THE WIN
