Wigan Warriors v Salford Red Devils
20 September 2019
Both of the form sides in the competition meet for what should be one of the best hit-ups in 2019 so far. Wigan have won 12 of their last 13 matches – a run that saw the Warriors finish second after dwelling near the bottom of the league for the early part of the season.
Salford haven’t been doing too badly either, winning their last eight games to finish a remarkable third after being written off by almost all of the Rugby League fraternity before the season began.
Liam Farrell and Liam Marshall return for the Warriors from suspension and injury respectively as they come in for the suspended Oliver Partington and Harry Smith. Meanwhile, Mark Flanagan, Gil Dudson and Tyrone McCarthy return for the Red Devils as Ben Nakubuwai, Adam Lawton and Josh Johnson drop out.
The Red Devils have been tremendous in 2019, but Wigan seem almost unstoppable at the moment. If Jackson Hastings – who, ironically will be in Wigan colours in 2020 – is on song then Salford could well spring a surprise and head straight through to face St Helens for a shot at the Grand Final as perhaps every neutral would like to see. However, the Warriors look too good and Adrian Lam has got his players firing on all cylinders.
