The Dewsbury Rams will fly the flag for League One in the fifth round of the Betfred Challenge Cup when they travel to the capital to take on London Broncos after a big win over Championship side Widnes Vikings.
After the fourth round 32-12 home victory at the FLAIR Stadium, coach Liam Finn pointed to his team’s tempo and physical approach as key to the winning performance.
“We wanted to use this game to keep ourselves at Championship tempo and physicality the best we can,” the former Ireland international said.
“At the start of the game we knew if we played as well as we know we can then we’d have a chance of winning the game, it took us a little bit of time at first and we were pinned on our try line but we managed to hang in there and get a couple of points which gave us the confidence and belief we need to go and win.”
Two try hero Reiss Butterworth told the Dewsbury Reporter newspaper he thought Widnes underestimated his side.
“Widnes are a top four Championship team and we know they have come here today thinking that they’ll just beat us but we know how good we are as a team,” the former Bradford Bulls hooker said.
“We don’t really know that much about London. It will be a long trip down there. They were 16-16 at half time with Doncaster. We will just give it our all.”
Dewsbury, who are currently top of the League One ladder, will face Championship team London Broncos on the weekend of 22/23 April. The capital dwellers will enter the match having disposed of League One second placed side Doncaster 66-16 in the Challenge Cup fourth round.
