Carl Forster scored twice as Barrow Raiders continue to set the pace in Betfred League 1 following a 40-12 win over Coventry Bears. After suffering their first league defeat of the season last time out at Keighley Cougars, the Raiders were back in emphatic form.
Declan Hulme opened the scoring after 10 minutes with Nathan Mossop adding a second just moments later. Ryan Shaw scored a third for the rampant hosts before Callum Bustin barged over the line for a 24-12 first-half lead. Harry Swarbrick scored in the second period before Forster’s double completed the rout.
Hunslet and Keighley played out a thrilling 20-20 draw at the South Leeds Stadium.
The Cougars set the early pace with tries by Dan Parker and Taylor Prell handing them a 10-0 lead. But Jordan Andrade scored a double to give the hosts a slender two-point advantage at the interval.
Shortly after the break, Vila Halafihi extended Hunslet’s lead only for Charlie Graham and Dalton Desmond to salvage a dramatic draw.
In the opening fixture of the weekend, London Skolars condemned West Wales Raiders to their 14th defeat in as many matches.
Fresh from ending their five-match losing streak with a pulsating draw against Doncaster, the Skolars ran out 46-30 winners at the New River Stadium on Saturday.
The defeat leaves West Wales without a point and rooted to the foot of the division, while the Skolars move on to seven points, one point behind the Bears following their loss at Craven Park.
