There is a bumper weekend of Coral Challenge Cup action this weekend as Our League and BBC dip into the archives to bring you some memorable Challenge Cup Finals.
The action begins on Saturday afternoon on BBC One with highlights from five classic Challenge Cup Finals being shown back-to-back from 1:15pm.
Leeds and Saints’ fantastic 1978 final will be the first aired and will be followed by the legendary final between Wigan and Hull FC which saw Australian half-backs Brett Kenny and Peter Sterling go head-to-head at Wembley.
There is then a Bradford double-header beginning with the highest-scoring final in history against St Helens in 1996 before you can re-live the Bulls’ 2003 final with arch-rivals Leeds at Cardiff’s Millenium Stadium.
The marathon of Challenge Cup Finals on BBC finishes with Hull and Warrington’s 2016 battle which went right down to the wire.
On Saturday evening, the action moves to Our League and Warrington once again take centre stage as their full 2018 Challenge Cup Final against Catalans Dragons will be available to view ‘live’ from 6pm. To watch this game, sign-up to Our League here.
Sunday’s offering sees BBC Rugby League Correspondent Dave Woods present a special documentary on the 1968 Challenge Cup Final dubbed the ‘Watersplash Final’, on BBC Two from 1:15pm.
The 1968 Challenge Cup Final saw Leeds and Wakefield Trinity vying for the trophy in virtually unplayable conditions due to a waterlogged pitch, but in typical Rugby League fashion the game went down to the final kick of the game.
