Ireland coach Ged Corcocan has slammed Jared Waerea-Hargreaves after his high shot in New Zealand’s win over the Irish.
Waerea-Hargreaves was sinbinned for his first half high tackle on Dan Norman at Leeds.
Corocan believes the Kiwi prop should have been sent off for it, and the incident was a “game-changer”.
I’m filthy with it,” he said.
“I’ve got to be careful what I say now. But that’s a game-changer. I’ll hold back on the emotion a bit, but that’s a game-changer.
“It was a bit of a dog shot. I’m not going to cop that. I’d back the boys on that, but it was a game-changer for me.
“We’ve lost two players this week due to a decision, I’d love to see them go to town on that one after we got served up.
“It will be interesting to see if he participates in the rest of the tournament.”
New Zealand coach Michael Maguire played down the tackle.
“It hit him on the shoulder and sort of rolled up a little bit, we’ll wait and see,” Maguire said.
“I think he’ll be right to be honest.
“If you see the first contact it hit him on the shoulder and rolled up, as he was being tackled he was sort of falling and Jared hit him on the shoulder and it rolled up.
“That’s what I saw.”
