If you are a fan of international rugby league or just curious about how the sport is faring outside the heartlands you should give the Everything Rugby League Podcast a listen.

Two of our recent episodes have attracted a large number of listeners and prompted positive feedback.

Steve Brady on France

Journalist Steve Brady and his wife moved from Wigan in the north of England for a life in Perpignan in the South of France seven years ago and haven’t looked back.

In this episode we explore Brady’s early years in the UK as a journalist, why they moved from Wigan to France, setting up their company Catalan Media and what happened to Catalan Dragons to start things off. We delve into French Rugby League, including the domestic championship, the international outlook for les Chanticleers and the current President of French Rugby League. All the way Steve regales us with his commentary on the beautiful landscape, cuisine and culture in his adopted home. I ask him what is essential for my two week rugby league tour of the region and Keith puts him on the spot to choose between the culinary delights of the Catalans region and the ‘Wigan Kebab’. Steve is articulate and entertaining. Well worth a listen. Available on Spotify (below) or Apple Podcasts.

Darren (Daz) Fisher: Serbia and Former Spain Head Coach

Darren Fisher is a lifelong rugby league coach who hails from Wakefield in the north of England. There are lots of good people in International Rugby League and Darren is one of them. Hear about how he connected with rugby league in Spain and helped build the national team to the point where they were close to qualifying for the World Cup. We examine what happened after that and how Fisher crossed over to Serbia and the differences he found. We look at the future for the sport in Serbia and put him on the spot by asking which city has Darren’s favourite cuisine. There was an offer to play at a coastal town in Australia at one stage. Darren tells us why he had to turn that tempting offer down. What shines through is the passion Fisher has to develop the game and provide opportunities for players. Listen below or on Apple Podcasts.
