The Malta Rugby League (MRL) recently presented its coaching staff for the 2021 European Championship campaign, heralding the return of former players, captains and coaches.
With former Malta halfback Roderick Attard heading up the Malta coaching staff, former Malta captain Chris Parker and ex Malta head coach Anthony Micallef will return to the fold following 5 and 6 years away respectively, the trio are joined by Malta based player Mark Camilleri who has been pushing local developments on the island during the group’s absence.
Rugby League is a community sport, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds. Malta Rugby League typifies this reality and have a proud history of bringing together individuals to form something special, something greater than the sum of its parts. With very few people escaping periods of isolation in lockdowns over the last couple of years, Malta Rugby League recognise that this sense of community and belonging has rarely been needed more than it is now.
With barely any resources apart from plenty of heart, Roderick Attard, Mark Camilleri and Anthony Micallef are on the ground in sunny Malta getting Malta back on rugby league’s European circuit for 2021 with internationals against the likes of Turkey, Czech Republic and the Netherlands in the D Championship of the European Rugby League.
