Both Hull KR and Castleford have similar form going into this one, with the former winning two of their last five games and the Tigers winning three.
The goals for both sides remain as different as ever; with KR 11th, if they lose this one and other results don’t go their way, they could end the weekend bottom. Whereas Castleford are 5th, and are chasing down Hull FC in 3rd.
Castleford have performed well against the Robins in recent years, winning two and drawing two in their last five games. With an average attendance the highest in a decade though, KR will be hoping their fans get behind them and inspire them to victory in this must-win fixture.
Since Tony Smith’s appointment in early June, Rovers have claimed victories over Leeds, Warrington and inner-city rivals Hull FC, but face a stern test against a Castleford side that won back-to-back games for the first time since March before the cup break.
Tigers head coach Daryl Powell has made two changes to his 19-man matchday squad with Cory Aston and Greg Eden coming in for Paul McShane and Tuoyo Egodo with McShane serving a one-match ban and Egodo out injured. Smith, meanwhile, has named new signings Dean Hadley and Jez Litten in the Hull KR 19, but Kane Linnett misses out due to injury.
This will be a much tougher ask than it seems on paper for Castleford. Desperate for victory, KR are always a threat at home and the Tigers never play to their full potential after a break.
