RFL Vice President Mike Smith crossed the country from his East Hull base to West Cumbria to attend the 130th anniversary celebrations for Aspatria Hornets last weekend.
The club was formed following a meeting on 17th October 1891 – and 2021 also marks 10 years since the reformation of the club.
Mike was joined by Roger Blair, Chairman of the Cumberland Rugby League, as well as many of Aspatria’s sponsors and former players following their last fixture of the season against Cockermouth Titans.
The Hornets are currently coached by a familiar name in Hitro Okesene, the former New Zealand forward who played for a number of clubs in England including Carlisle, Hull FC and Featherstone, and has settled in West Cumbria since retirement.
