James Roby checked off his 500th appearance in style steamrolling the Leeds Rhinos. Just four minutes into the fixture Dodd and Lomax worked with each other well sliding through the defence, great passing effort to Makinson was just missed as a Rhinos hand made it in forcing a scrum for the visitors.
Straight from the scrum, Roby found Konrad Hurrell who dived straight over, against his former club! Makinson missed the kick. 0-4
Poor discipline followed for the next 10 minutes or so for the Rhinos. Lomax was caught high by Sutcliffe, the tap and go resulted in another penalty, this time Bentley catching Lomax.
Makinson dove over in typical fashion, an acrobatic try! Pressured by the Rhinos Welsby moved the ball out to Makinson who eventually got over in typical style. Unfortunately for Tommy he couldn’t convert his own try. 0-8.
Leeds peppered the Saints defence, who did extremely well to keep them out over and over again. Hurrell knocked on letting the Rhinos have a great chance. Sironen then caught Smith high. Opting for the tap restart Saints kept them out once more.
There can be only one man to lead tonight’s team song! 🎵

Leeming made a 40/20, a great play. St Helens however did keep them at bay not letting them through! They had been unreal today, especially in the first half. Forcing a knock on from the attack St Helens won the ball back with 10 minutes to go.
Over the next 10 minutes Leeds had 3 very good attacks, but the absolute well drilled defence of the St Helens kept them out time and time again. Half time 0-8.
A quick start from Leeds forced an error, a high bomb was dropped by Bennison. Percival and Batchelor however put the Leeds man into touch after the attack.
Leeds won back to back penalties when they received the ball back, and did get over the line but the referee fairly ruled it out for and obstruction.
St Helens dictated the play from then on, forcing GLDOs and completing every set. Their patience came good as an ambitious around the back pass from the Rhinos was intercepted. Tommy Makinson got over for his second try after getting the ball and running the length of the pitch. Percival took the kick, adding the extras.
Minutes later Saints got over again, Lewis Dodd getting over from an inch perfect kick in front of the posts. Percival again made no error.
Suckerpunch 😬

10 minutes later Saint Helens put the final nail in the coffin. Lomax diving over and Percival adding the extras. (0-26)
Rhinos looking to score so they didn’t lose to nil. But the Saints defence had other ideas, keeping them out once again.
