St Helens bounced back from their Betfred Challenge Cup Semi-Final defeat to Wigan Warriors with a 24-10 victory over Hull FC at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
The defeat brought to an end a three-game winning run for Hull FC in the Betfred Super League whilst moving St Helens two points clear at the top following Wigan’s loss to Huddersfield Giants on Thursday evening.
A clever play down the blind-side saw Tommy Makinson open the scoring inside the first seven minutes for the hosts. Hull FC hit back through Darnell McIntosh but Jack Welsby’s effort on the hooter meant the hosts went into the break leading 10-4.
Jonny Lomax would further the Saints advantage in the second half before Makinson doubled his account in a game which saw him surpass 1000 points for St Helens. McIntosh would score a late consolation for the Airlie Birds.
