It is highly likely that there will be a second Brisbane based NRL team in 2023 and being only two years away, this will leave the successful bid with a lot of work to do before kick-off.
One major part of an expansion club is finding that marquee signing that will entice new fans. Signing a star player is a must for any new expansion club not only to aid in their brand awareness but also help in enticing other players to consider joining as well.
There have been several names already mentioned as to who the new Queensland club should target including; Cameron Munster, Michael Morgan, Luke Keary and Harry Grant. All of these players do not come off-contract till the end of the 2023 season tho, which means unless they secured contract releases from their respective clubs, they would have to be signed for the 2024 season onwards.
Here is where the Gold Coast Titans star AJ Brimson comes in. Unlike the more popular options such as Munster and Morgan, Brimson is off contract by the end of 2022. He is only 22 years old and will be 24 when the new club plays its first game, making him the ideal age for an expansion team due to the longevity he could have for the club.

Though he is already making his mark at the Gold Coast Titans and was recently called into the Queensland team, it is possible he may be enticed with a move to the new Brisbane NRL club. When the casual fan looks at the Titans, Brimson is rarely thought of as the main man. Players like David Fifita, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and Ash Taylor are all getting more hype then AJ this season. Adding to that, Corey Thompson was signed in 2020 as a player that could play wing, however, is more suited to play fullback.
With fullback arguably now the most important position in the modern game, Brimson may see signing with the new Brisbane club as a once in a lifetime opportunity and having a potential superstar in the number one jersey would be a massive boost for the new club and greatly assist them in being competitive from the get-go.
