Catalans Dragons earned their first points of the 2022 Betfred Super League as they edged out Wakefield Trinity 24-22 in Perpignan on Saturday evening.
Steve McNamara’s side raced into an early 14-0 lead with Matthieu Laguerre and Fouad Yaha both crossing alongside a Sam Tomkins conversion.
Midway through the first half, Trinity got the scoreboard ticking themselves as England hopeful Tom Johnstone scored although Catalans immediately hit back through Samisoni Langi.
A Max Jowitt try and conversion narrowed the deficit for Wakefield after Tomkins had notched a penalty goal after 30 minutes. Catalans led 16-10 at the break.

The Dragons came out firing after the interval as Benjamin Garcia forced his way over before a Tomkins conversion and penalty goal pulled Catalans further away.
Wakefield did try and mount a late comeback with two tries inside the last four minutes from Johnstone and fellow winger Tom Lineham, but even Jowitt’s two successful conversions left the visitors trailing by two.
