A high area of concern for the Dragons heading into 2022 was whether or not head coach Anthony Griffin would invest in the club’s wealth of young talent.

With many ready to make their mark in the NRL this season, fans were keen to see if he would opt to persist with older players who are more experienced but do not have as much upside.

To start the season the Dragons young guns were given a great opportunity to put their talent on display and did so when the Red V beat the Warriors in round one and came close to beating the Panthers in round two.

Unfortunately, they would suffer a huge loss against their rivals the Cronulla Sharks in round three and Dragons coach Anthony Griffin seemed to use that one performance where they were simply outclassed by a better team as an excuse to drop younger talent in the form of Tyrell Sloane and limit the chances of others in Junior Amone.

It now seems that this reluctance to use their youth is going to come back and bite the Dragons as The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield is reporting that Wayne Bennett’s Dolphins have displayed an interest in Amone.

“I do know Wayne Bennett has reached out in the last week to Junior Amone, he is after a halfback, he is after a five-eighth,” Rothfield said.

“I am sure he is not the only young half that Wayne is looking at.

“I think they [Amone and Sloan] are looking back and a lot of their heartache is coming from looking at the way their replacements are playing and there has been absolutely no improvement in the side.”

Amone is currently contracted to the Dragons until the end of 2023 which means he will be unable to even hold official talks with The Dolphins until November 1st unless the Dragons were to release him from his current deal early.

The Dragons will be taking on the Newcastle Knights this Sunday and will be hopeful that they can nab their second win of the season as the Knights do have players out through injury.

Coach Anthony Griffin has named Amone on the bench.
