After a horrid past three months, the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles might be set for a win as they have been linked with a representative forward.

Following rumours of a split in the locker room, frustrated stars and the release of their head coach it’s about time the Sea Eagles had something go their way.

Martin Taupau’s departure leaves a hole in Manly’s forward pack that the club will look to fill with Brisbane Broncos player Thomas Flegler on a long-term deal according to The Courier Mail’s Peter Badel.

“Brisbane are facing a huge battle to retain Tom Flegler with Sydney rivals Manly ready to table a massive $4 million deal for the Queensland Origin firebrand,” said Badel.

“News Corp can reveal Flegler is poised to hit the open market from November 1 as at least five NRL rivals, headlined by the Sea Eagles and Warriors, prepare to wage a big-money bidding war for the Broncos enforcer.

“Broncos recruitment chiefs are aware of Manly’s poaching bid and will begin talks to retain their key prop.”

Flegler is still under contract at the Broncos in 2023 which means this potential move to the Sea Eagles would not eventuate until 2024 at the latest.

Manly’s chances of signing Flegler can only be helped if they bring in Anthony Seibold to be the club’s new head coach as recent reports have suggested.

In 2019 Flegler made his debut for the Broncos under Seibold as they qualified for their last finals series to date.

Last season the former Tully Tiger had what was statistically his best year in the NRL where he made 429 tackles for an efficiency rate of 94.1%, broke 35 tackles and averaged 108 running metres per game.

Manly’s forward pack was largely carried by Haumole Olakau’atu as Jake Trbojevic was also solid in defence.

Olakau’atu has just re-signed with the Sea Eagles until the end of 2025 and could pack a great one-two punch with Flegler for years to come.

We won’t see any updates on Manly’s pursuit of Flegler until at least the 1st of November which is when they will be able to officially offer the forward a deal.
