GARETH WIDDOP (WARRINGTON WOLVES) 

Gareth Widdop was pivotal in Warrington Wolves’ massive victory over Hull FC this past weekend scoring twice.

His entrant for this week’s ‘Try of the Week’ began with a clever offload from Mike Cooper who found Daryl Clark who jinked his way through the FC defence. Widdop was on hand to throw the final sidestep and finish a well-worked Wire move.

QUENTIN LAULU-TOGAGA’E (NEWCASTLE THUNDER)

Newcastle Thunder caused a memorable Coral Challenge Cup upset against Dewsbury Rams to ensure they are the Only League 1 side in Round Six of the competition.

On a free-scoring afternoon at Kingston Park, Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e’s effort was Thunder’s most impressive. Full-back Lewis Young sliced through the Rams’ defence before finding an onrushing QLT in support who finished under the posts. 

DERRELL OLPHERTS (CASTLEFORD TIGERS) 

Derrell Olpherts has been in fine form for Castleford Tigers since joining the club in the off-season and he went over for a brace as Daryl Powell’s men were victorious against St Helens.

Olpherts’ second was the pick of the bunch as space looked to be closing on the outside but – despite the best efforts of Jonny Lomax – the winger managed to ground the ball in spectacular fashion.

NIALL EVALDS (SALFORD RED DEVILS)

Salford Red Devils full-back Niall Evalds crossed twice in his side’s impressive comeback victory over Wigan Warriors on Friday evening, but it was his second effort which caught the eye.

Wigan were pressing the Salford line but put the ball to ground and Evalds was quickest to react scooping up the loose pass and racing 90 metres to pull the Red Devils level.

KIERAN BUCHANAN (HULL FC)

Hull FC fell to a heavy 4-38 defeat to Warrington Wolves last week but youngster Kieran Buchanan did get the Black and Whites on the scoresheet in the closing stages.

Jamie Shaul began the move keeping the ball alive before the ball went through another six pair of hands allowing Buchanan to slide over in the corner.

COREY MAKELIM (SHEFFIELD EAGLES) 

Sheffield Eagles booked their place in Round Six of the Coral Challenge Cup with an impressive win over Workington Town at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium.

American international Corey Makelim was one of five try-scorers for the Eagles and he benefitted from a clever chip kick by half-back Anthony Thackeray in the first half before putting his body on the line against the uprights.
