Rangi Chase suffered defeat in his league debut for West Wales Raiders as they were beaten 40-16 by Rochdale Hornets away from home.

With no Gavin Henson in the squad for the Raiders, the focus was instead on the 35-year-old former England and Castleford Tigers stand-off, but there was only so much he could do against a Hornets side inspired by Sean Penkywicz.

Penkywicz, who turns 39 later this month, accounted for four of the seven tries the hosts scored, with Gavin Bennion, Danny Yates and Lewis Sheridan also crossing.

Chase played a role in creating the first of Raiders’ three tries, scored by Marcus Webb, with Morgan Evans and Mike Connor getting the others.

Seven different players got the tries as Keighley Cougars beat Doncaster RLFC 44-18 at Cougar Park.

Quentin Laulu-Togagae, Charlie Graham, Aaron Levy, Alfie Seeley, Jack Coventry, Brenden Santi and Jack Miller were all in on the act, with the Cougars dominating a second half in which they outscored the visitors 26-6.

Jake Carter accounted for two tries and kicked four conversions as Barrow cruised to a 38-20 win over the Coventry Bears.

Mark Tyson also scored a couple of tries with Nathan Mossop getting the other for the Raiders.

Nathan Hill crossed twice for Coventry with Sam Bowring and Matty Welham getting their other tries.

Workington Town pulled clear in the second half to earn a 28-16 win at Hunslet RLFC.

Matty Henson and Declan O’Donnell had two tries each after Jamie Doran got the first, with Carl Forber kicking four conversions.

Jordan Andrade, Nathan Conroy and Matty Chrimes scored tries for the hosts.

On Saturday, Patrick Ah Van scored a hat-trick of tries on his North Wales Crusaders debut as they ran out 44-23 winners at London Skolars.

Jordan Gibson scored a double for the Crusaders while Jono Smith, Rob Massam and Earl Hurst were also on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Rob Oakley crossed twice for London while Judd Greenhalgh and Lameck Juma also went over.

Hunslet RLFC 16-28 Workington Town
Coventry Bears 20-38 Barrow Raiders
Keighley Cougars 44-18 Doncaster RLFC
