A few months ago this fixture would have appeared a foregone conclusion. But, Catalans’ recent dismal run of form – four games without victory – gives the Giants a crucial chance to secure their Super League place for 2020, though the Giants themselves have won just once in five games.

Huddersfield have endured a miserable season, winning just ten games out of 28 to sit in tenth in the table. Whilst the Dragons had been in with a shout of a top five spot a month ago, the French club have slipped to seventh and look a side void of confidence and team spirit.

Giants boss Simon Woolford has named halfback Matt Frawley, Aaron Murphy, Oliver Roberts as Tom Holmes, Michael Lawrence and Sam Hewitt fall by the wayside. Catalsn head coach Steve McNamara brings Benjamin Garcia back into his 19-man squad following the forward’s suspension whilst youngster Arthur Mourgue could make his first appearance of the season.

Catalans are on the beach in flip-flops if past results are anything to go by and it could be a saving grace for Huddersfield that the Dragons are the opponents they need to beat to stay up.
