Super League

Salford v Warrington: Thursday Night Preview

29 Aug 19 0 Comments

A Challenge Cup hangover is the last thing that Warrington need going into this vital game away at Salford. After five league defeats in a row, the Wolves were able to claw a victory in the cup final when nobody gave them a chance.

Salford have gone under the radar this year and, whilst Warrington have lost their last five Super League games, Salford have won their last five and sit just two points behind Warrington as the Red Devils occupy the last remaining play-off spot.

Head coach Ian Watson has worked wonders with his Salford side in 2019, and, buoyed by the effervescent Jackson Hastings, the Red Devils are poised to reach the play-offs for the first time since 2006.

Salford make just one change with Tyrone McCarthy coming back into the side after recovering from illness. Warrington boss Steve Price, meanwhile, has made a number of changes following their cup exploits last weekend with Mike Cooper, Chris Hill, Dec Patton and Toby King dropping out. Luther Burrell, Matty Smith, Lama Tasi and Danny Walker come into the squad.

Though no cup winner likes to admit it, the week after lifting the Challenge Cup trophy is one of celebration. And, against a side like Salford that continue to defy the odds, Warrington are going to come up against an incredibly tough outfit that has already beaten the Wolves twice away from home this year.
