Wests grabbed a valuable two points and points differential in their 46-4 thumping of the Knights at Campbelltown. That victory leaves the Tigers just a point behind the Broncos in ninth spot on the table, with matches remaining against the Dragons and Sharks. They will fancy themselves to beat the 15th placed Dragons at the SCG on Sunday.

It is an unchanged Tigers side, with Josh Reynolds named to start at hooker, but he could be shifted back to the bench as he was a week ago. For the Dragons, their season was over weeks ago and last week’s 34-12 loss to the Roosters was another horrible performance by the Big V, who fell behind 34-0 after 50 minutes.

The last time these two met was in round 23 last season, with the Saints winning 20-10 at Leichhardt Oval. The nominated road team has won four of the past five matches between these two clubs, who have played off at a host of venues in recent times.

St George give up the third most points, second most tries and second most run metres in the NRL, so it’s no surprise they find themselves near the bottom of the standings. The Wolf doesn’t expect them to turn a corner against a Wests side with plenty of play for. The Tigers need this win and will get it by double digits.

Wolf Facts

  • The Wests Tigers must win their remaining two games to have any hope of playing finals football. They can only finish on 24 competition points. 2007 was the last time a team finished with 24 points and made the Top 8. That season the Broncos scraped into 8th with 24 points with a +35 points differential. That season, the Tigers finished 9th on 24 point but had a -20 points differential.
  • The debut of Tristan Sailor (Wendall’s son) was a highlight on an otherwise miserable night. Tristan ran for 132 metres (second most for the Dragons), one-line break, two tackle breaks 12
    tackles and one try.
  • Luke Brooks from the Tigers kicked for 644 metres against the Knights which was the 5th most this season.
