Warrington coach Steve Price is refusing to panic after his side fell to its fourth loss in its past six matches.

The Wolves went down 27-18 to Castleford in a tight encounter at the Mend A Hose Jungle on Sunday.

It was Warrington’s second defeat in a row, but Price is remaining calm. His message to disillusioned Wolves’ fans ahead of their Challenge Cup semi-final this Saturday is “keep believing”.

“We’ve got a footy team there, keep believing,” he said.

“I think we’re still not too bad on the points table from last week. I know I’ve got a footy team there and I’ve got the upmost belief in the playing group to put in a really strong performance on Saturday against a really good football team in Hull FC.

“You have your hurdles throughout the season. It’s not always going to be perfect. It’s a challenge I’m really looking forward to.”

Price admitted the loss to the Tigers was a difficult result to take, but denied his team were thinking too much about the upcoming Cup semi-final.

“We haven’t spoken about the semi-final, our focus was Castleford today,” he said.

“We’re not happy with that performance. We have to be honest here.

“[But] we were right in the game up until Trueman got the intercept when we were in possession.

“It wasn’t one of our better displays. We had 16 errors for the whole game, when you’re dishing that amount of errors you’re never going to give yourself a chance are you.”

Price took aim at referee Scott Mikalauskas for a number of decisions during the match.

“There was a number of outrageous decisions out there today,” he said.

“That first try they got was clearly obstruction with Bryson Goodwin, clearly obstruction. I can’t understand how they missed that one.

“There was a number of tough calls throughout the game, but we have to be better than that. We have to deal with it and that’s our challenge now.”

Castleford have moved into the top five after the win over Warrington and coach Daryl Powell could not hide his delight.

The Tigers have leapfrogged Catalans into fifth place on points difference, securing their third victory in their past four fixtures.

“It was a really good performance,” Powell said.

“We’ve been talking a fair bit about backing up performances and attitude and I thought we did that today. They had good starts but I thought we were excellent.

“It was really important to get the two points. Our attitude is getting better all the time.

“We had a lot of players at the top of their game today.”

Castleford were without the likes of Cheyse Blair, Michael Shenton and Junior Moors, with Peter Mata’utia moved into the centres.

The Tigers played with just one recognized halfback but Powell was pleased with how his players coped with the changes.

“We’ve changed our system a little bit down to our personnel,” he said.

“There’s a bit more steel about us. If we turn up with the right attitude we’re a good rugby league team. We know what we need to do.

“We’re just in a good place, we’re in a good place to continue on with this form.”
