Interim Leeds coach Richard Agar insists his team are not unconcerned about relegation after suffering another Super League loss.

The Rhinos are at the bottom of the ladder with 12 points, the same amount as 12th placed Hull KR.

Leeds fell to its 13th defeat of 2019 – at the hands of St Helens – on Friday.

Agar, who was handed the coaching reins after the sacking of David Furner, says the Rhinos Super League status is in their own hands with 10 games left to go but believes they are not ignoring the threat of relegation.

Leeds made a whopping 16 errors in the match against Saints at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

“It’s bit of a broken record really – errors have hurt this team all year,” he said.

“That’s just killing us at the moment, the errors coming out of our own end. But in that field position we came up with some really early in the count. When you play a team like this you’ve got to make the most of that position down there.

“The same again last week against Wigan, we probably had enough possession on their line to win the game. So at the same time we are talking about there’s 10 games to go and we’ll decide, we’re absolutely not being blaise about it thinking we’ll be alright.

“There’s certainly not a we’ll be alright attitude. It’s about hard work, and it’s about making sure we’re a lot better in some of these areas that are quite frankly killing us at the moment.”

Pressure has been mounting at Leeds since the start of the season when they won just one of their first seven fixtures.

Furner was sacked in May and the Rhinos were then dumped out of the Challenge Cup by Bradford.

Kallum Watkins has been released to join NRL club Gold Coast Titans and Leeds are reportedly close to signing Salford halfback Robert Lui.

But Agar admits until the defeat to St Helens his side had not talked about relegation as a group.

“We have not really spoken about relegation yet,” he said.

“The first time we mentioned it was in the changing rooms after the game. We control where we finish this year and we are near the finishing line.

“There is still a third of the season left to play and will be the ones who control it. We will control how we are judged this year. If it us who go down then it is us who deserve it.

“If we can’t control our finish this year then we deserve everything we get but that is definitely not the mindset at the moment.”
