Rumoured Rugby League video game still yet to be confirmed

It has been over five years since fans were last able to get their hands on a brand-new and up to date Rugby League video game.

The most recent game to be released was Rugby League Live 4 which came out in 2017 and received an update the following year to include the 2018 rosters for the NRL and Super League.

However, ever since those that play the game have had to be content with downloading recent rosters created by other players.

Back in January it was revealed that players were getting scanned for a new game when various NRL players uploaded photos of the scanning process to their social media pages.

Although, it has now been close to a year since these scans were done and there have still been no official announcements regarding the game which could unfortunately mean that it is no longer being made.

If we are still set to get a new Rugby League game though it will not be a part of the Rugby League Live series that fans have become accustomed to throughout the 2010s.

This is because developers Wicked Witch and Big Ant Studios have both publicly confirmed that they are not developing the new game when it was revealed that players were being scanned.

Once these respective announcements were made fans began speculating who the mystery developer for the new game could be, with many hopeful that a major company such as EA or 2K had jumped on board.

Whilst EA did produce Rugby League games in the 1990s, it is now unlikely either company would invest heavily in creating games for a sport that is not yet recognised on a mainstream level worldwide.

Last year photos of what looked to be an email from the NRL confirming to a fan that a new Rugby League game was in development were shared online but to this day their validity is unknown.

Hopefully this game is still in production and an update on its status is provided soon so fans can really start to anticipate its release at some point in the future.
