Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation have confirmed their Big Feed initiative has delivered over 30,000 meals, as it comes to its conclusion.
Over the past six months, the Foundation – along with our partners including Wakefield Council – have been delivering meals three times per week, with around 1,500 meals being delivered from both the stadium and our numerous hubs.
Working with these hubs, they identified the most vulnerable in our society, offering them a freshly cooked meal, while also partnering with Age UK Wakefield, who have helped spread the word.
This successful programme all stems from the success of their 2020 Big Feed, where over 1000 meals were delivered in eight days to both the elderly and people struggling within the district.
Throughout the event, the Foundation have been immensely supported by LD Nutrition, with Lee and Dawn Westerman going above and beyond every time called upon.
Speaking following the competition of the event, project lead, James Stephenson, said, “What we have achieved over the course of the last 20 weeks has been incredible.
“The way that everyone throughout the district has come together to support their community has been incredible and we are proud to have made a difference.
“Leading this project has been a great experience and one I will take pride in for the rest of my career.”
While, Cabinet Member for Communities, Poverty and Health, at Wakefield Council, Cllr Maureen Cummings, followed, “What the Foundation has done over the past few months with the Big Feed is amazing.
“Along with their respective partners, the number of people they have supported throughout the district with freshly cooked meals has made a great difference.
“Everyone at the Wakefield Recovery Board is delighted with the way the project has both progressed and succeeded.”
With the Big Feed now coming to an end, we have loads of other projects going on throughout 2021.
