There will be another first for Girls’ Rugby League at Featherstone Lions on Wednesday night (September 8) with Yorkshire Cup Finals for Under-14s and Under-16s.

Dewsbury Moor will play Oulton Raiders in the Under-14s Final which kicks off at 6pm, before the Featherstone Lionesses host Hull KR in the Under-16s Final at 730pm.

The Lionesses sprung a major surprise by inflicting a first defeat of the season on Oulton in the semi final, while Hull KR have defied their Division One status to beat two Premier Division teams in their path to the Final.

The Yorkshire winners will also earn places in a War of the Roses event on Sunday October 10 when they face the winners of the equivalent competitions in the North West.

Ashton Bears were the Under-14s winners, and Orrell/Culcheth won at Under-16s level.

Dave Raybould, the RFL’s Community Game Competition Manager, said: “Women’s and Girls’ Rugby League continues to grow at all levels, and these new Yorkshire Cup Finals are further evidence of that.

“All four teams involved deserve congratulations for reaching this point, and we wish them all well – and we are also grateful to Featherstone Lions for hosting the event.

“Growing numbers of girls can now set their sights on playing in the Women’s Super League, and I’m sure some stars of the future will be on display this Wednesday night.”
